Philosophy

The Mathematics curriculum provides a rich, exploratory math environment in which basic skills are learned and applied to units of study throughout the school year. As our Mathematics philosophy states, we are committed to providing a challenging, motivating and purposeful mathematics program, which will guide students to their highest potential. The course of study is based on educational research and ongoing evaluation. The curriculum incorporates developmentally appropriate practices in a manipulative rich learning environment. The development of mathematical thinkers who make connections with their world is fostered through a variety of approaches to teaching and learning. Students apply their knowledge through practice, reflection, analysis and synthesis. Our curriculum is international; therefore we use a variety of program guides and resources from Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America. Math Investigations in Number, Data, and Space is the main program guide used in the Grade 4 program.
